Joint Entrance Examination (Main) (JEE Main)


The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GOI) has established National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization under Society Registration Act 1860 for conducting efficient, transparent and international standards tests in order to assess the competency of candidates for admissions to premier higher education institutions.                               

The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting Joint Entrance Examination JEE (Main) to the NTA from 2019 onwards.                               

Admission criteria to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTI), Institutions funded by participating State Governments, and other Institutions shall include the performance in the class 12/equivalent qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main). The (B. E. /B. Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programs offered by the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs).

Application form availability


  • Registration will be online.
  • This year there are many changes in the application process, fee payment, fee structure, etc.

Last date to apply 


  • The last date to submit the filled-in application form on the official website
  • The January session of JEE Main has witnessed lesser registration than that of in 2019.
  • In 2020, 9.34 lakhs registrations were recorded whereas, In 2019, there were 9.41 lakhs registrations

Last date to pay application fee


  • Candidates can pay their fees and upload their images on the official website by login in into their accounts

Image Correction starts


  • JEE Main 2020 image correction window is open now.
  • Candidates can correct their uploaded images from the official website by entering application number and password

Application form correction

8-Mar-2020 to 12-Mar-2020

  • Application correction is a one-time process.
  • Candidates could correct mistakes in the application form during the prescribed period.
  • All the details except the exam cities in the filled-in JEE Main application form could be modified.

Issue of admit card


  • Admit card will be available online for download on the official JEE Main website.
  • Along with the admit card candidates must remember to carry a photo identity proof to the exam centre.

The exam will be  conducted in two shifts on each day

  • Shift 1 - 9:30 am to 12: 30 pm
  • Shift 2 - 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Release date of answer key and recorded responses

Second week of April

Candidates can download their recorded responses marked in the OMR sheet.

  • NTA will publish the answer keys of each question paper on the official website of the exam.
  • If any candidate wants to challenge the answer keys they will be allowed to do so by paying Rs 1,000 per question.

Declaration of result


  • The result and scorecard can be downloaded from its official website.
  • Candidates will be able to check the result by entering the application number and password/date of birth.
